When you’re riding from Guadalajara, Mexico all the way to the southern tip of Argentina, choosing the right adventure motorcycle gear becomes absolutely essential. This journey will likely take me a couple of years to complete, so every item I pack has to be durable, lightweight, and compact. Space is incredibly limited on a bike, so I’ve had to be very intentional with what makes the cut.
Thankfully, I’m no stranger to this kind of challenge. Decades of racing off-road buggies—like in the grueling Baja 1000—have taught me how to plan and pack for performance. Back then, just like now, I had to balance the need for reliability with the limits of weight and space. That experience has been invaluable while preparing for this kind of long distance motorcycle travel.

The gear I’ve chosen reflects my personal style of travel. I’m mechanically inclined, so I’m bringing along a solid selection of tools and spare parts. On the other hand, I’ll be doing some camping, but I don’t plan on cooking, so there’s no need for a stove or cookware in my setup. What works for me might not work for you—but I hope my gear list gives you a helpful starting point for planning your own adventure.
If you’re gearing up for your own epic ride, I hope this list of adventure motorcycle gear inspires and informs your packing decisions. Getting your setup right can make all the difference on the road.
