About Me

My name is Michael but many people know me as Moose in English or Mus in Spanish.

I was born in the United States but have lived most of my life in Mexico.

Off-road has been a big part of my life since I was a teenager. My first hands-on experience was helping my buddy work on his VW based buggy in the late 1970s.

In 1982 I bought my first Baja Bug and replaced the stock 1500 engine with an 1835 cc engine that I built in my dorm room.

I didn’t have a motorcycle back then because my Mom had them strictly forbidden. Even so, ever since I was in junior high-school I had friends that had bikes and would let me ride their’s, mostly dirt bikes.

When I was in college a friend of mine had a Honda 750 that he would let me ride now and then – it was a blast!

I built my first off-road buggy in 1984 and have been racing ever since.

My first Baja 1000 was in 1994, but we didn’t finish the race – the car broke down. We returned in 1997 in a single-seat buggy that I built from scratch. That time we won the Baja 1000 in our class, as well as the championship.

Since then I have raced Baja about 2 dozen times, with lots of podium finishes, always in the buggy classes.

As for motorcycles, it wasn’t until the mid 2000’s that I bought my first dual-sport bike. My Mom wasn’t very thrilled but by then I was in my forties, so she didn’t have much say in the matter.

After that first bike, I’ve had an assortment of motorcycles, almost all of which have been dual-sport.

Currently I’m preparing for an extended trip on a dual-sport motorcycle. My plan is to start in Ushuaia, Argentina and ride all the way to the Arctic Ocean in Alaska. I will be posting updates on my blog.
